Gorka Lab Awarded $3 Million U.S. Department of Defense Grant to Study Menopause in Women Veterans

The Gorka Lab is excited to announce a new $3.06 million, four-year grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to study menopause and its impact on the mental and physical health of women veterans.

Co-led by Stephanie Gorka, PhD, and Tamar Gur, MD, PhD, the multidisciplinary research team will follow 125 women veterans ages 45–55 over one year. The study will examine how hormonal changes interact with stress, brain function, mood, sleep, pain, and the gut and vaginal microbiome.

This research seeks to better understand the biological and psychological changes associated with menopause in women and identify pathways that may help inform more personalized approaches to care.
